I've Been Seduced!
I held out on buying the size 4 circulars I needed to make the Shaped Triangle Shawl from A Gathering of Lace. I knew if I bought the needles, I'd start knitting the shawl. Seeing as I really should be packing for my move and NOT knitting, I certainly didn't need to start a new project.
But I did. And how I love this shawl already. A meer 58 rows into it, and I'm smitten already. I went to The Close-Knit Cafe to knit today, and I've already recieved compliments on it.

I've also decided that 400px by 300px looks better on the page... so my 'thumbnails' are going to be bigger from now on.

More Yarn, More Knitting
Saturday, I finally got my Tencel yarn for the shawl I'm going to knit. I though I had ordered yarn that would match my new quilt set, but I was wrong. However, I am very happy with the yarn, and the shawl will end up in the living room, so it all works out. I also recieved my 5 skiens of alpaca/wool blend. It's so wonderful, and will make great socks. I'm trying to come up with a good Celtic pattern for it, and see if I can wing writing my own sock pattern. We'll see how that goes.
I know I said I was going to work on the lace scarf for a while before starting these, but I've worked on it some. A fight with my mother has also put the scarf on hiatus, as it upsets me too much to look at it right now.
In other knitting news, a yarn shop/coffee house just opened up in St. Matthews! It's so cute and called The Close-Knit Cafe. I happened to go by it on thier second day while driving to Afterthoughts in search of beads for yet another knit project. I have a feeling I'll be frequenting there! Hopefully, there will be a knit group starting soon so I can make a few more knitting friends. It's hard to attend a knitting circle with my schedule.

I finally finished something!
Finally! The socks are complete!
Now I have to get more done on the lace scarf before I can start on the next pair of socks.

It's been a while...
...but I have a good excuse! I really do! I spent a good chunk of last week on vacation. New York was awesome and I may be going back in September with my mom and aunts. I can't wait! I was only in the city for a few hours, but what did I do besides seeing Spamalot?
I went yarn shopping, of course! Since Cathy and Andrea wanted to go to SoHo, I figured we could squeeze a quick trip to Purl. Cathy and Andrea weren't as into the yarn shopping as I was, but they too were in love with Sullivan street. I made my trip quick, since I knew what the store carried. Since I still have a sock fetish, I bought some gorgeous Koigu.
Speaking of socks, I'm nearly finished with my wonderful cable and rib socks. I ripped out the first sock, switched to size 2 needles, and now they fit!
And I'm also working on Mom's Rippling Water scarf with my silk/cashmere blend.

Editted to add: How did I forget to tell you this, Kirstie?? Guess what we passed near Andrea's house in Ohio?
Give up?
AN ALPACA FARM!!!! I think I squealed when I saw it! (And immediately though of you!)

Sad Sockness
I have to frog my entire sock. I've tried to put on what I've knit up so far, and it's just not happening. I'm going to rip out, and swatch a looser knit, if that doesn't work, I'm going to go up to size two needles. The socks are simply going to be too pretty not to wear.
I would be really down about that, but my lace scarf pattern came in, so I'm working on that for my mom right now. I'll post pictures once I get batteries for my camera. I'm going to need them in New York!

Rib and Cable Socks - The Journey Begins
My first pair of socks is off to a great start, except for one little issue... I didn't swatch to check the gauge. I know, I know... Bad knitter! No cookie! The pattern says when I knit 30 rounds, it should be about 3 inches long, okay, if by 3 inches you really meant two and a half. However, length isn't a huge issue to me. The width is correct when I stretch out the ribs, so I should be good to go. I'll know better next time.
That being said, I'm really enjoying sock knitting. I think I'm going to have to keep a pair for socks on the needles at all times. I'm going to order some natural colored yarn and attempt handpainting the yarn at some point. Once I do that, I'll post pictures of course!

Today, we do socks!
Due to a severe lack of patience on top of boredom, I decided to yarn shop after seeing the Cable and Rib socks in the Fall '05 Interweave Knits. I went to Sophie's and bought the Bearfoot yarn from Mountain Colors in the colorway 'Mountain Twilight.' They are going to be so pretty! This is my first pair of socks, and I'll be updating as it progesses.
In some non-knitting news, I got an apartment! The lease is signed, and I move in on August 15th! I can't wait!
