Yarn Madness!

Friday, I decided to drive to Indiana to check out a yarn store. I guess that's sounds crazy, but really, it's less than 10 minutes from the apartment, so I figured I'd check out Grinny Possum. Oh my. They sell spinning wheels! The owner (I can't remember her name off the top of my head) even let me spin on her wheel. I've been playing with the drop spindle since November and I've been looking at wheels. Now i know I must have one. At first, I was underspinning and the yarn kept falling apart. I treadled away though and watched what was happening. I realized the as the flyer spun around, it was twisting the yarn in my hand. Then as I eased my grip, the bobbin pulled the yarn in. It clicked in my head. The owner was impressed and told me I did better than she did when she first started. She also told me to come back anytime to spin some more.

While I was there, I bought more sock yarn. I generally hate self striping, but I fell in love with this color of Zitron Trekking XXL. Knit up, it has smooth Noro-like color transitions.

After that, I ended up driving by Dee's where I really didn't plan to buy anything, but I found that they had a side walk sale going. Artful Yarns' Galaxy for 75% off. I immiediately called Kirstie to see what she wanted. She got 4 hanks of the orange yarn, and I bout 3 of the black. Seven hanks of Galaxy for $15.00!

I started knitting a scarf with it as i watched 'Lost' on DVD this weekend. I don't like knitting furry scarves anymore, but I love the feel of the yarn, and needed something mindless to work on. It looks really nice right now:

I'm still knitting on my shawl as well. It's coming along slowly. I'll post pictures of it soon.

Pretty purchases!

What are you planning to make with your new haul?

Grinny Possum is the best name for a knitting store I've ever heard! And in Indiana, where I grew up! :)
