Llama Llama Duck!

It's been a busy week. No, not with Thanksgiving, but with fitting in spinning and knitting between two jobs! On Friday, Kirstie was staying with me, and we had just finished dinner with Ali at the Irish Rover and as the three of us arrived at the apartment, I found my secret pal's box of goodies! The two slow pokes left the resturant a few minutes after me, so I had to wait till they were here to open it. The first thing I saw was glittery mohair fiber, and it only got better from there.Duck soap on a rope, and a link to a song that Ali insisted on listening to OVER and OVER! Yarn, a hat, and a mug. I'm not listing everything, you can just look at the picture. My pal RULES!

Secret pal presents!

Wearing my secret pal hat, and enjoying hot choclate from my mug. I have a different version of this where you can only see my eyes, and I think it's going to be an LJ icon.

Some of the yarn I've spun thus far.

In the biggest news, I finished the Shaped Triangle Shawl this morning!!! Four months of off and on work has paid off! I'll be blocking it this week or next week. It's huge though! Wider than my fireplace!

My Baby Came Home!

I ordered my wheel last week, believing it would arrive in 3-4 weeks. Imagine my suprise to get a call Friday night letting me know it's in! I'm so glad I had yesterday off so I could go by the shop and get it. I knew I'd be getting a lazy kate and niddy noddy with it, plus some fiber. Some fiber? Some??? I got two huge ball of natural corridale (I think) and two huge balls of brown. Plus a cone of gold thread for plying to add some sparkle. I'm in love with my new wheel. As of yet she's unnamed. I have a feeling, she's going to get a New age-y name, as I've been spinning to Amethystium both last night and today. Great stuff.

I'm spinning fairly evenly, though I think this first yarn will be plied, dyed, and felted. I'm spinning very thin too. I got into that habit with the spindle, and it's hard to break. I tried to spin a bit of that tan-ish merino for the Expo, but I think I need to work my way up to that. It's a bit like learning all over again.

So I know you are dying to see my new baby... So here we go! First off, is my Traveller and spinning chair.

My wheel again with some of the spinning I've done. Pardon the background mess. I need to clean.

My niddy noddy and laxy kate, which I need to finish.

The fiber stash I recieved. Note: These balls are only slightly smaller than basketballs!

Plus, the lovely Wensleydale I ordered off eBay arrived Friday.

Another Holiday gift is complete...

I started this scarf last night and finished it just now. Using doubled up Andean Treasure in Lavender from knitpicks.com. I CO 13 then did a *K1 P1* rib until the scarf was about 10 ft long. Then I tied 3 fat tassels to each end and... here it is. ^_^

Arida will love it. I will have a better pic after I get back from going hom for turkey day ^_^ I can wrap it around my neck 4-5 time and still have the tassels hang to my waist! I love it and it is SOOO warm. Now I have to finish the gloves for Ali and the shawl for my GrandMa. Happy knitting!

The North American International Livestock Expo

I ventured out to the expo last night in search of fiber. I was disappointed at the lack of processed fiber, though I could have bought full fleeces like there was no tomorrow. Too much work for me though. However, I did buy about 2 1/2 pounds of wool to spin. And the best part of it all, there was a spinning demonstration! I started talking to the two spinners and they're a part of a local spinning group! They have spin-ins once a month. I gave them my information, and they are going to email thier newsletters to me!

Fleeces!

Black sheep! (my favorites)

Roving from the expo

The llama roving I bought last week.

Uncarded bamboo fiber from eBay.

Long time no update from the Kirstie...

So I have been busy ... and lazy. I am so many WIPs I thought I would post a few pics. I am trying to knit as many Christmas presents I can. I have all this yarn and no $$ - it is just so logical... or something.

So here ya go!

SP6 Goodies I just got. YAY!~ for hand made stitch markers and hand dyed yarn! Thank you Secret Pal! You Rock!

Glove I made for my friend Ali - to match the orange Warmth I am getting a pic of once I see her again. But this time she will heave her matching gloves also. I have to start the mate soon.

Socks are great! I am making this pair for my mom. She likes Bright colors. I am thinking about putting a pom-pom on the back... they are ankle socks after all ^_^ Have to have the mate done by Thanksgiving... should be no problem.

And these socks are for my dear boo... once I finish them. She is the reason I can knit socks ^_^ This is still the 1st of the pair... theses seem to be taking FOREVER.

I think that is about it for now... I have other FOs that I gave away before I got a picture of them... sily me. But I plan on getting pics once I see those people again. SO THERE! HA!

Until next time...

In 28 days...

...I'll be a spinster. Yes, on that day, I'll turn 27 AND I'll have my Ashford Traveller! My first wheel... I can't wait. For my birthday, Mom is getting me the wheel and my dad is getting the matching spinning chair. I placed the order yesterday, and let me tell you this: If you are going to buy a wheel, and are in Louisville/Southern,In area, PLEASE purchase it from Grinny Possum. These folks are great and deserve tons of success.

And where shouldn't you shop? Friends and Fiber in LaGrange, Ky. I went there on Saturday and was disappointed that it took 15 minutes for the two ladies working to even aknowledge me. I wouldn't have bought anything, except they had some llama roving that was wonderfully soft. I won't be heading back though.
